The 4 Islands tour from Ko Lanta Island

by Dr. David

The 4 Islands tour from Ko Lanta Island , Trang Province IslandsKo Karadan, Ko Mookko Chuek and Ko Hai.  In a previous article I wrote about a one day tour of snorkeling, cruising and spending some time in Ko Rok. In this article I will elaborate about a tour of the 4 Islands, which is also a one day tour which includes snorkeling, cruising and tour of the islands including the Emerald cave at Ko Mook which can only be reached by swimming.

These two one day tours are the most popular of all day tours which begin at Ko Lanta and combine snorkeling sites and stay on one of the beaches including lunch as well as swimming to the Emerald cave on Ko Mook.

The 4 Islands tour at Ko Lanta includes the following islands:  Ko Karadan, Ko Mook, ko Chuek and Ko Ngai (also called Ko Hai). There is a choice of a few agencies offering these one day tours. They all offer a similar tour program – pick up from the resort, cruise and snorkeling (snorkeling equipment is supplied by the agency), fruit, drink, lunch on one of the islands, spending time at the beach and returning to the resort.

These are well arranged speed boat tours (for groups of 15 people on a boat) guided by professional tour guides. The speed boats offer drink and fruits as well as toilets.

Each tourist is given snorkeling equipment and life belt however I recommend that you bring sun screen, a hat and a water proof bag. Those of you with light skin should also bring a shirt and even long pants to avoid sun burns during snorkeling.

The Ko Rok tour offers better snorkeling in comparison to the 4 islands tour. The 4 islands snorkeling sites quality is a bit lower than the Ko Rok sites however swimming to the Emerald cave in Ko Mook (in the dark) is very interesting and makes up for it.

If we compare between the snorkeling cruises to Similan islands and Ko Tachai to Ko Rok, in my opinion the Similan islands and Ko Tachai are somewhat better however cruising and snorkeling at Ko Rok are certainly recommended and offer a real underwater experience with a beautiful soft white sand beach and clear blue waters.

Summary:  Ko Lanta does not offer many activities besides its beautiful beaches so taking a one day tour is a great idea for those of you who look for additional excitement such as snorkeling and enjoying the beautiful beaches and clear blue waters of the small nearby islands.Ko Lanta Island
