Bangkok Choosing a Hotel – Khao San District

The Khao San district is a magnet and meeting point for backpackers from all over the world. The area is located west and quite a distance from central Bangkok. The area is characterized with cheap guesthouses and small hotels, travel agencies, street stalls, restaurants and the like. Several famous tourist sites in the vicinity are King’s Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun and more. Khao San is located at a distant from shopping centers,  major markets and other attractions and is not especially convenient in terms of transport as there are no Sky Train or subway trains that reach this area.

Opinions are divided when discussing this district. Some class the area as “poor and run down” whilst others find it an “area with unique and magical charm.” This small area might appeal to some, although it does not actually reflect the “real” Thailand, but somewhere foreign and cosmopolitan. In my personal opinion, this area is particularly suitable for young, low-budget tourists, those first visiting Thailand and, of course, those who are already familiar with the area and love it.
