Whilst tourists are familiar with the MBK, the younger population of Bangkok, who prefer the Union Mall, rarely visits it. The union is a huge shopping center offering mostly up to date and trendy fashion clothing and accessories to suit younger shoppers and at cheap prices.
Unlike the MBK which is old-fashioned and sells mediocre quality and medium-priced items compared to the Union Mall, which is classed as relatively new ( as it opened in 2006 and primarily attracts a younger audience, interested in contemporary fashion at affordable prices.
The Union Mall is one of the busiest and liveliest areas of Bangkok, located near Lad Prao and Pahon Yotin intersection and difficult to miss due to its very noticeable yellow color. The mall has eight commercial floors that cover approximately 150,000 square meters.
The mall’s strategic location in one of Bangkok’s most vibrant areas that is easily accessible (the subway station is right next to the mall entrance) has made Union Mall one of the most popular malls in Bangkok amongst young people.
The concept of Union Mall is different from that of many shopping centers, including the prestigious Central Plaza Lad Prao, located just across the road.
Instead of the usual standard stores found in shopping centers, Union Mall offers shoppers numerous modern and beautiful boutiques at the center of each floor, surrounded by an outstanding selection of youngsters’ favorite cafes and restaurants.
Union Mall is devoted mainly and almost entirely to fashion. Clothing, footwear, bags, fashion accessories, and knick-knacks that young customers (under the age of 30) “just can’t live without”!
Here you won’t find furniture or electrical appliances like televisions and refrigerators, but you will find plenty of PC games, consoles, gadgets and gizmos, but as I mentioned earlier, this mall is almost entirely devoted to contemporary unbranded fashion.
Union Mall shopping center becomes quite hectic after 14:00 when the school day ends and the mall floods with students and pupils.
From 17:00, Union Mall also offers an open-air market which daily attracts not only youngsters but thousands of workers that work in the region to shop, hang out and dine.
Opening Hours: Daily from 10:00 to 22:00
How to get there: It’s simple as Union Mall is located adjacent to the subway station (MRT) as shown in the top picture.
Use exit no. 5 and it has escalators leading directly into a shopping mall.
Did you know? The Union Mall is located in close proximity to:
Weekend Market (Chatuchak)
Central Plaza Lad Prao – a beautiful shopping center.
Market Behind Thai Airways – Bangkok cheap brands market
So when visiting Union Mall you can combine it with a visit to one of the above.
